President Donald Trump waves during an event celebrating American truckers, at the White House, Thursday, April 16, 2020, in Washington.
Places with declining infections and strong testing would begin a three-phased gradual reopening of businesses and schools, with each phase lasting at least 14 days, meant to ensure that the virus outbreak doesn’t accelerate again.
“You’re going to call your own shots,” Trump told governors, according to an audio recording obtained by The Associated Press. “We’re going to be standing along side of you.” Trump held conference calls earlier Thursday with lawmakers he named to a new congressional advisory task force. The economic costs were clear in new federal data showing that at least 22 million Americans have been thrown out of work in the last month. But the legislators repeatedly urged the president not to sacrifice public health in an effort to reopen the economy.
The federal government envisions a gradual recovery from the virus, in which disruptive mitigation measures may be needed in some places at least until a vaccine is available — a milestone unlikely to be reached until sometime next year.
wbaltv11 Why have a plan one day and contradict that plan the next day! Inconsistencies breed chaos! We actually need a leader who functions in reality!
I wouldn’t want realDonaldTrump as POTUS in a world war. The enemy would win because Trump is Tweeting.
Sure, but where are these 'strong' testing areas?

'Gatherings larger than 10 people are to be avoided and nonessential travel is discouraged. In phase two, people are encouraged to maximize social distancing where possible and limit gatherings to no more than 50 people...' 10 to 50 is a large jump. 10 to 30 might be better.
Well that’s pretty much Alaska and that’s it
KHOU So.... nowhere .... 🙄🙄🙄
Why does the news keep covering this? AGAIN: Trump has ZERO control when or where or how things reopen. None. Zip. It's up to individual states and cites, not Trump. Ignore his nonsense.
I rather leave it to my Governor.
stevenadamswv and realDonaldTrump - Today we learned that SBA’s lending authority for PPP loans was reached, and the government is not authorizing any more loans. Classic big government. Thanks for nothing.
I read an article that a state was toying with the idea that all people in the state be tested with a mail in kit of some sort and then you get an all clear. It was weeks ago I read it. Probably some conspiracy crap.
KTLA This will backfire so hard and we won’t be ready...again.
Useful as a screen door on a submarine. The Trump administration is the worst.
We will be right back where we started by the end of May... and by that I mean we will be right back locked in the house as the second wave overtakes all these places opening too early.

About that testing....
KTLA Well.. California will definitely not open and will go down the shit hole especially knowing what dummy Newsom did for undocumented immigrants and President Trump call him out for it.
strong testing, you say? so this will be happening in *checks notes* none places
chrisbergpov woman3290 What do you think about this? I do not think our state will be in the starting re-open phase.
Problem strong testing is in very very few (if any) places so this could take awhile

Here's Trump's plan:
Definitely reasonable. Thought it was gonna be a lot worse.
And where in America would that place be?
It’s not his call
We can’t keep killing the economy and giving low rate propaganda sites(here) room to have a valid bitch 😂
KTLA That's a start but America needs to open sooner, rather than later.
That seems reasonable enough
Strong testing, where?
So, all this crazy about reopening now is not really a thing? Shocking. Sadly, Trump sycophants follow his every notion and are disobeying social distancing guidance.
AssociatedPropaganda
That's reasonable, I hope everything will work ok.
