The Justice Department's top two officials at the time knew there was no evidence to substantiate such an assertion, but Trump nevertheless"Just say that the election was corrupt [and] leave the rest to me" and to the White House's Republican allies in Congress, Donoghue wrote in his notes, quoting Trump.responding to the revelations, insisting that from his perspective, they don't show him"attempting to overturn the election.
"In fact, it is just the opposite. The documents were meant to uphold the integrity and honesty of elections and the sanctity of our vote. The American People want, and demand, that the President of the United States, its chief law enforcement officer in the country, stand with them to fight for Election Integrity and to investigate attempts to undermine our nation."
