A bipartisan proposal to change how the feds surveil U.S. persons could raise foreign partners’ concerns about sharing intelligence with the U.S., DOJ officials told POLITICO hours before an expected vote on the change

Congressional progressives argue it does too little to reform and limit DOJ’s surveillance powers. And national security hawks, including Rep. Liz Cheney have telegraphed concerns that the changes in the bill go too far.

“I hope all Republican House Members vote NO on FISA until such time as our Country is able to determine how and why the greatest political, criminal, and subversive scandal in USA history took place!”And Rep. Steve Scalise , House Republicans’ top vote-counter, has said he will push members to oppose the bill until they get more information about the Justice Department’s probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

“These are documents that were, in some cases, cited by the IG but not included in full in the report,” he said. “Those documents are being evaluated for declassification and provided to the committees of jurisdiction at their request when appropriate.”
