Republican presidential candidate former President Donald Trump speaks at a campaign rally, Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Temple University in Philadelphia. Former President Donald Trump is leading President Biden in a poll in Georgia just days before the two are set to engage in their first debate for November’s election.
A poll by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution released Tuesday shows Mr. Trump with 43% support and Mr. Biden with 38%. Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. received 9% support. He is not yet on the ballot in Georgia, but has said he has qualified. Eight percent said they were undecided. Georgia is a key swing state that Mr. Biden flipped blue in the 2020 election. It was the first time a Democrat had won the state since former President Bill Clinton in 1992.
The two presumptive nominees for their respective parties are set to debate Thursday in Georgia, hosted by CNN. The AJC poll was conducted June 11-22 by the University of Georgia’s School of Public and International Affairs. The poll surveyed 1,000 likely voters, and its margin of error is plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
