Trump: ‘Iran Appears To Be Standing Down’

President Trump said in a televised statement Wednesday that last night’s Iranian missile attack on two Iraqi air bases housing U.S. troops resulted in no casualties and that the American people should be “extremely grateful and happy” at the outcome.“All of our soldiers are safe,” Trump said, before adding, “Our great American forces are prepared for everything. Iran appears to be standing down, which is a good thing for all parties concerned” and the world.

Trump also said that the targeted killing of Iranian military leader Qassem Soleimani was an elimination of “the world’s top terrorist.” Trump said he would call on NATO to become “much more involved in the Middle East process” and that Iran needs to end its nuclear ambitions and cease its support of terrorism. The U.S. will impose “powerful sanctions” until Iran changes its behavior.

There were conflicting reports whether Trump would give a statement Tuesday evening, but White House press secretary Stephanie Grishamlate Tuesday: “All is well! Missiles launched from Iran at two military bases located in Iraq. Assessment of casualties & damages taking place now. So far, so good!”“To the people and leaders of Iran: We want you to have a future and a great future—one that you deserve, one of prosperity at home, and harmony with the nations of the world.
