The Trump administration today imposed new restrictions on federal use of fetal tissue obtained from abortions, barring government scientists at NIH from doing such research, and canceling an existing HIV research contract with the University of California, San Francisco.
The decision came after a heated debate within the Trump administration that pitted the White House against HHS, which sought a less restrictive policy, two officials told POLITICO. But research groups expressed dismay, saying that scientists rely on fetal tissue to develop vaccines and develop cures for degenerative diseases. The UCSF contract, which involved seeking new HIV therapies, was due to expire today after the Trump administration granted a 90-day extension.
HHS Secretary Alex Azar had argued for a less restrictive policy that would have allowed ongoing research on tissue acquired from research institutions, those officials told POLITICO.

The problem is decisions are made by people who are just listeners of the uneducated of scientific researches. It’s better for them to discard the already discardable tissue than use it to benefit the human race. Mind boggling.
ANYONE supporting this should be prevented access from any medications or medical treatment developed from the use of fetal tissue in the past. This is just insanity.

The danger he is doing to science research is unprecedented. The danger he is doing to scientific knowledge and education is horrific. I feel like if his base knew how his policies could cut short their lives, perhaps they would not be so supportive. Or not.
This country is already far behind other first world countries when it comes to innovation and science. This is yet another major step back, for no reason whatsoever outside of religious hardliners who are turning our secular country into a Christian dominion. For shame.

That research is not only for HIV. It is for cardiovascular & diabetes. Most of the red states suffer from extreme obesity & diabetes (they don't call it Diabetes Belt for nothing). They're just signing their own death certificates. The real progress in HIV is made in the EU.
