In 2014, a meteor entered Earth’s atmosphere over the Western Pacific, causing a mystery to develop. The event was previously assumed to have left a trace on the ocean floor, but new research presents a drastic new twist.
As per the press release, the ground vibrations were detected at a seismic station on Papua New Guinea’s Manus Island. The area near the seismic station in Manus Island, based on satellite images acquired on March 24, 2023. “The signal changed directions over time, exactly matching a road that runs past the seismometer,” said Benjamin Fernando, a planetary seismologist at Johns Hopkins University who led the research.
“Whatever was found on the sea floor is totally unrelated to this meteor, regardless of whether it was a natural space rock or a piece of alien spacecraft—even though we strongly suspect that it wasn’t aliens,” Fernando added. Moreover, Fernando’s research suggests they were looking for alien material in the wrong location. And there are high chance that the meteor entered the atmosphere someplace else.
