A tropical depression has formed in the Caribbean and could make landfall as a major hurricane in southwest Florida next week. The National Hurricane Center cautioned that the long-range track for the storm is more uncertain than usual.The National Hurricane Center said Tropical Depression Nine has formed in the central Caribbean and is forecasting it to strengthen and track toward southern Florida as a Category 3 hurricane next week.
The so-called “cone of uncertainty” stretched from Florida’s Big Bend area to off of the Sunshine State’s Atlantic coast as of Friday morning. But that doesn’t mean Alabama won’t feel some indirect effects from the storm, and forecasters said it is too soon for Alabamians to let their guard down. Past that, forecasters said, it is too early to be specific about any other potential impacts to the area.
