The Town of Sweden is looking to adopt parking restrictions for April 8's total solar eclipse.

Get ready for April 8 by checking out our Total Solar Eclipse page, with everything you need to know for the big day!The Town of Sweden hosted a town hall meeting Tuesday, March 12, 2024, allowing residents to voice their concerns on a proposal to adopt parkingWith heavy traffic expected across the area, towns and cities are looking to streamline the number of vehicles on the road that day.

That's why Sweden town officials proposed to prohibit parking to close to 40 different streets. They say the decision would improve safety for its residents and visitors, allowing emergency personnel to have easier access down roads if needed. Yet, some residents voiced their concerns over the idea during a town hall meeting Tuesday. They feel this could hinder their abilities to host gatherings for the eclipse, and claim a plan that impacts so much of the town should have been executed earlier.

"Public safety is certainly important, but so is planning," one Sweden resident said. "In this instance, in the name of public safety, this proposal, in my opinion, is too much, and too late." No vote was held on the proposed plan at Tuesday night's meeting. The town's supervisor tells us that will come during next Tuesday's board meeting on March 19.
