Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones said children are among the 22 people killed by powerful tornadoes that struck eastern Alabama on Sunday.

Breaking News Emails

Jones said the ages of the dead hadn't been fully determined."We do have some children, unfortunately," he said, adding that the number of deaths was expected to rise. After nightfall Sunday, the rain had stopped and pieces of metal debris and tree branches littered roadways in Beauregard. Two sheriff's vehicles blocked reporters and others from reaching the worst-hit area. Power appeared to be out in many places.

"We've done everything we feel like we can do this evening," he said."The area is just very, very hazardous to put anybody into at this point in time."

Lord I pray for the people of Alabama.

God is punishing Alabama for not believing in global warming and for voting for the White House moron. Plus, FEMA is socialist, something they hate. Let them handle this by themselves.

Hey Mr. Dolt (realDonaldTrump) this is what you call a REAL Emergency, not the FAKE Emergency you are claiming You seem to have your definitions of REAL and FAKE confused in other arenas too! I think Dr. Seuss covers this in one of his books.Words shouldn't be too big for you

So sad

Morning_Joe The growing desirable addition is becoming a tornado room, or out West, a fireproof room. Here in NYS we would get maybe 1 tornado in a 10 year period, now it's a half dozen a year.

Real news. Prayers

The people of that town didn't know what hit them. They're not in tornado alley and even so March is too early for these storms. Unusually warm winter causes this when that air crashes into colder air. I feel so bad for them but I'm afraid this may be a new normal.

But let’s spend all the emergency money and more on a wall monument

I hope everyone is safe there

Is it my imagination or have we had one natural disaster after another since 2016? And it's not all climate change, they've been having hurricanes, floods and fires since bibical days

Tornadoes out of season, forrest fires and hurricanes destroying like never before. But these same people support the clowns in politics that believe in deregulation and don’t believe in climate change. They say it’s not the time to talk about! Look what is happening to you now!

My deepest condolences for the families and friends of those lost. Tornadoes are scary even here in tornado alley- my husband helped with the recovery in Greensburg KS.

Can anybody in your newsroom take the time to give us a geographic ID? Pretty rural but by Googling, I see its along 1-85 between Montgomery&Atlanta or near the town of Auburn , or maybe 80 or so miles NE of Montgomery. Not just 'Dramatic' footage some of us are interested in.

No basements?

Reminding, cautioning, and warning to the Muslims and the disbelievers who are turning away from the caller to the Greatest Bliss that is greater than the world and the hereafter 08 - 07 - 2016 AD …

This is insane. We got rain, and they got this.Bless all their hearts. This is so awful. Those poor people.

Do you think any of those trump cult members will start believing in climate change? Nope, not a chance!! Tornadoes in March! Not even spring yet. SMFH

WMCActionNews5 Prayerful support

Heart goes out to all. Deepest Condolences to the families. Hope the ones alive will be found and rescued. RIP 🙏🕯💐🕊👼

Global warming

It looks like a bomb exploded. If we don’t do something about climate change this will be our future.

So sad.

Oh my. It’s not even tornado season is it? 😢

Morning_Joe And just like that, another disaster....

Morning_Joe God Bless All Souls, Alive & Departed.

Morning_Joe 😪

ThoughtsAndPrayers

Morning_Joe 🙏🌹😢

Morning_Joe Liberals blame global warming in 3...2...1...

Hug your people today folks.

That sounds like a rough way to go having your house suddenly fall apart on top of you. Why don;t we have better building regulations in tornado and hurricane areas?

الله أكبر من كل شيء

Very sad 😢

Heartbreaking

Awful 🙏
