On 2/27/20 at 9:56 AM ESTThe commandant of the Marine Corps has ordered that all symbols connected to the Confederacy be removed from Marine installations, according to reports.
Commandant Genera; David Berger is said to have instructed that all Marine bases remove any"Confederate-related paraphernalia" worldwide, reported Task and Purpose. The directive was sent out as part of a memo, seen by Military.com, in which Berger demanded several initiatives be put in place, including finding ways to place more women in combat positions and to update their recruitment policies to prohibit those with prior domestic abuse convictions.
"Last week, the Commandant of the Marine Corps directed specific tasks be reviewed or addressed by Headquarters Marine Corps staff," Captain Monica Witt, communication strategy officer for Marine Corps, told"Many of the tasks were published on Twitter Friday. Other tasks not published previously are mostly administrative matters.
"Any official policy decisions, changes or implementation plans will be published via appropriate orders and messages."
Why, its history, however the DemoRATS love panic and hate.
It is quite shocking that the US military has allowed the enemy’s flag to be present on its bases for hundreds of years.
Deeply disappointed that any are there.
thank you ... considering that Confederates are traitors to the American Constitution !
MonzterofHope
MonzterofHope Next they need to rename the Army bases named after Confederate generals.
Sickening hopefully it fails in the courts. Signing up for the military doesn’t mean you leave your 1st amendment rights at the door.
Why would the Marines have a traitor flag on premises?
Weak
Do you mean Charleston? Dylan Roof murdered members of a church in Charleston, not “Charlestown”....
Apparently some members of the military don't realize that the Confederates were traitors and killed U.S. soldiers.
Thank God!!
Good. That flag represents the losing side anyway
dnsf In 2020?
As a black man, a 'flag' doesn't offend me...but good decision otherwise (you mean it wasn't already)?
👏👏👏
What gives him that right
pistach01 Why would any base fly the flag of an enemy of our nation. Are they flying Japan's or Germany's?
Shouldn’t this have been done 155 years ago?
GOOD. Its divisive.
A little late, but okay.
As they should.
Damn. It's 2020!! So sick of those racist symbols. Progress takes a long time in ths country.
Great
Good. The Confederate Flag not only symbolizes a repression of a people based soley on race, but it was the flag of the only Army ever raised with the sole purpose of destroying the USA. I can’t believe people fly it next to Old Glory.
Was this even permitted!
Good
Finally!!
Don't want to hear about 1st Amendment. The military can dictate and censor at will.
Long overdue.... 155 years, to be exact.
Learn a little more about history
The Confederacy ended more than 150 years ago, GET OVER IT! (That's what Conservatives say every time someone brings up slavery.)
It IS 2020, right? Disgraceful, marines.
What the hell took you so long?
What took them so long?
Duh. No shit
The racism in the military is an under-reported issue. Plus is an oxymoron to be pro-US by displaying a symbol of treason and desertion
best news I've seen today
Now if we could just keep them off of the front porches of those flying them in the southern confederate states.
Beat news all morning. Next we need to remove the ideology from all bases
CMT this does not mean you can not have them in your house LindseyGrahamSC senatemajldr you can keep you any Supremacist. icons on your property only. TheJusticeDept
How are we going to distinguish one Marine from the other now?... by color?
150ish years too late.
