The head of the Texas state police pronounced the law enforcement response to the Uvalde school shooting an “abject failure.”

Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steve McCraw uses maps and graphics to present a timeline of the school shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, during a hearing , Tuesday, June 21, 2022, in Austin, Texas. Two teachers and 19 students were killed.

The police chief testified for about five hours Tuesday at a closed-door hearing of a Texas House committee also investigating the tragedy, according to the panel chair. “You don’t wait for a SWAT team. You have one officer, that’s enough,” he said. He also said officers did not need to wait for shields to enter the classroom. The first shield arrived less than 20 minutes after the shooter entered, according to McCraw.

Sen. Paul Bettencourt said the entire premise of lockdown and shooter training is worthless if school doors can’t be locked. “We have a culture where we think we’ve trained an entire school for lockdown ... but we set up a condition to failure,” he said. “Please, please, we’re begging you, get this man out of our lives,” said Berlinda Arreola, the grandmother of Amerie Jo Garza.

Texas top cop: Uvalde police response an 'abject failure'Law enforcement authorities had enough officers on the scene of the Uvalde school massacre to have stopped the gunman three minutes after he entered the building, the Texas public safety chief testified Tuesday, pronouncing the police response an “abject failure.” Police officers with rifles instead stood and waited in a school hallway for nearly an hour while the gunman carried out the May 24 attack that left 19 children and two teachers dead. Delays in the law enforcement response have become the focus of federal, state and local investigations. When they say BlueLivesMatter they are not kidding. Have they been ambiguous about this? So what happens to the Republican’s solution to have a good guy with a gun?!!

Texas top cop: Uvalde police could've ended rampage early onAUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Police had enough officers on the scene of the Uvalde school massacre to have stopped the gunman three minutes after he entered the building, and they would have found the door to the classroom where he was holed up unlocked if they had bothered to check it, the head of the Texas state police testified Tuesday, pronouncing the law enforcement response an “abject failure.” If the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun, this just proves that cops were never good guys, they just have guns.
