6 leading movie theater chains — including AMC, Cinemark and Regal — have filed a lawsuit against the state of New Jersey, claiming a First Amendment right to reopen their locations during the coronavirus pandemic.

In the lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, the theater chains take issue with Murphy's executive order allowing indoor religious gatherings limited to 100 people or 25 percent capacity, claiming this represents an"unconstitutional and unlawful" distinction.

Murphy's administration has said movie theaters can open their doors again under Stage 3 of the state's coronavirus-era protocols, a phase that"may include ... limited entertainment,"The lawsuit claims that representatives for the major chains have met with state government officials to share"detailed safety protocols that would be implemented for the reopening of movie theatres.

I’m so tired of America’s mentality of individualism over the collective health of the group. This is why America is doing so poorly when it comes to this issue. If we all work together, this will all be over more quickly!

Saw somewhere China owns most of AMC... could it be?

Good

The First Amendment isn’t about killing people. That’s the Second Amendment. Duh!

If you are afraid than don't go. Simple as that.

Not if it's contrary to public safety. YAS: yet another scam.

Thought this was bad because movie theaters seem like superspreader events waiting to happen, but then I read the article. Yikes. They are equating themselves with churches? How embarrassing.

People have rights to watch movies wherever they want to

It’s about time. This pandemic has been a wag the dog.

Does anyone trust other people to keep their mask on in an enclosed room for 2 hours?

They think they have a right to spread COVID?

And they are citing the wrong amendment.
