Paramount Pictures said Sunday that in its first three days in North American theaters, “Top Gun: Maverick” earned an estimated $124 million in ticket sales.

The 59-year-old superstar just got his first $100 million opening weekend with"Top Gun: Maverick." In its first three days in North American theaters, the long-in-the-works sequel earned an estimated $124 million in ticket sales, Paramount Pictures said Sunday. Including international showings, its worldwide total is $248 million.

People are also reading… Before"Maverick," his biggest domestic debut was in 2005, with Steven Spielberg's"War of the Worlds," which opened to $64 million. After that it was"Mission: Impossible — Fallout" with $61 million in 2018. It's not that his films don't make money in the long run: They just aren't enormously frontloaded.

The build up has been just as flashy, with fighter-jet-adorned premieres on an aircraft carrier in San Diego and at the Cannes Film Festival, where Cruise was also given an honorary Palme d'Or, and a royal premiere in London attended by Prince William and his wife Kate. "This solidifies the notion that the movie theater is a singular and a vitally important outlet for people," Dergarabedian said."People are looking for a great escape from everything that's going on in the world right now."

At Houston NRA event, Trump decries Uvalde massacre, blasts calls for gun control as ‘repulsive’Former President Donald Trump decried the “heinous massacre” in Uvalde during a speech at the NRA convention in Houston Friday and blasted those trying to advance gun control in the wake of it. And butchered the Children’s names while ringing a dystopian bell after each one. He mispronounced the victim's names with a tacky Taco Bell BONG and proceeded to dance afterwards. There is your level of compassion. ZERO. Couldn't care less

Trump urges end to gun-free school zones, easier confinement of 'deranged' peopleHOUSTON/WASHINGTON (Reuters) -Former President Donald Trump on Friday argued the United States should make it easier to confine 'deranged' people and eliminate gun-free school zones after a gunman killed 19 children and two teachers this week at a Texas school. 'Clearly, we need to make it far easier to confine the violent and mentally deranged into mental institutions,' Trump said in a speech at a convention in Houston of the National Rifle Association, a gun rights advocacy group. On suggestions to improve the security of schools, Trump said every school should have a single point of entry, strong fencing and metal detectors, adding there should also be a police official or an armed guard at all times in every school. He should lead by example and get some help He’s not the president? The fuck he calling out for? Will it be covered by his healthcare plan that will roll out in 2'weeks?
