You never see a getaway driver stop for gas in the movies. That rather important duty is performed off-screen, presumably, due to its inane yet crucial connection to the plot of any good heist film. But in real life, people are way dumber.
Take this recent report of a pair of electronics thieves in Buford, Georgia, who swiped $8,000 worth of equipment from a Sam’s Club store in early March 2023 and made their getaway in a Tesla. According to the local sheriff’s social media, the individuals didn’t make it far, and not 10 miles from the store they sacked.
