Tom Welling is back in striking fan art.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT A piece of DC fan art has been shared that depicts Tom Welling's Superman of Smallville taking on terrifying renditions of Brainiac and Doomsday. Tom Welling's tenure as Clark Kent is one of the most memorable thanks in no small part to its length. Smallville ran from 2001 to 2011, making it the longest-running superhero show to date.

The fan art was shared via Instagram by user @buffy2ville and shows Superman, Supergirl , Brainiac, and Doomsday in a desert landscape. The scene is like something out of Zack Snyder's Knightmare sequence, though with Superman on the offensive against villains instead of on their side. The depiction of Doomsday is particularly striking, showing him to be even more towering than seen in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

What's Next For Tom Welling's Superman & Smallville? Close Even if a movie does not emerge, then an animated sequel series may be in the cards.

Despite the series finale airing in 2011, hope remains for a Smallville sequel series or movie. This hope has been reignited by Michael Rosenbaum recently sharing that he would be keen to return as Smallville's Lex Luthor. This would be par for the course in the modern age of reboots and revivals, and the fact that Smallville still holds a special place in the hearts of Superman fans suggests that a grand finale in the form of a movie is more possible than ever.

Rosenbaum also commented on the possibility of this series, stating in an exclusive interview with Screen Rant that it "has to be the right time, and right now is not the right time." This is due partly to the aftermath of the Hollywood strikes last summer and the fact that DC Studios is still in the early stages of a big change now that James Gunn and Peter Safran are the new-ish co-CEOs of the company.
