Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Tom Holland managed to predict Spider-Man's most controversial Marvel Cinematic Universe trend eight years ago before he had even debuted as the hero. Holland first played the MCU's version of Spider-Man — following the cancelation of Andrew Garfield's The Amazing Spider-Man 3 — in 2016's Captain America: Civil War.
Speaking with Collider in 2015, months before his MCU debut as Spider-Man, Holland interestingly ended up predicting exactly what the biggest criticism regarding his version of the iconic Marvel hero would be. Excited to play the third movie version of Spider-Man, Holland revealed that his favorite version of the character was from the Ultimate Spider-Man comics.
"There's lots of things I didn't know about him. I mean, there's so many different versions of his story, and my favorite of which at the moment is the Ultimate Spider-Man.
How Spider-Man's MCU Connections Led To His Biggest Criticism Holland couldn't have been more right about where Marvel Studios would take Spider-Man. The MCU's Peter Parker was thrown into the mix with several other Marvel heroes right from the moment he debuted, being recruited by Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark to fight in Iron Man's team against Captain America's team in Captain America: Civil War.
The MCU's Spider-Man 4 Is Set Up To Fix This Criticism With Iron Man dead for years in the MCU and Spider-Man: No Way Home's ending making it so that Peter's loved ones and the whole world forgot he exists, no heroes know that he is Spider-Man. That setup, with Peter even moving into a smaller apartment all by himself like in the comics and Maguire's movies, is perfect for the upcoming MCU Spider-Man 4 to tell a quintessential Spider-Man story with Holland.
