The argument that the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun is, and always has been, nonsense. We learned as much when 19 “good guys” stood in the hallway outside a classroom at Robb Elementary for more than an hour while an active shooter was locked inside with a group of terrified 9 and 10 year olds. The shooter, who shall not be named here, murdered 21 people, injured many others and forever scarred the hundreds of children who just wanted to got to school.
The head of the school district police force, Pete Arredondo, inexplicably is still employed. He was scheduled to be sworn into the Uvalde city council this week, but as of this writing that’s been put on hold. Arredondo was apparently the man in charge of the police response and I say apparently because the law enforcement narrative on the massacre has changed more than a few times since the shooting. First, the police had bravely engaged the shooter outside the building, then they hadn’t.
The people of Uvalde have just experienced the most horrific tragedy possible and they can’t rely on their well funded police force to tell them the truth, much less protect them.
