Las autoridades de la ciudad, el atacante era un alumno de 12 años, quien vivía con su abuela. Se le describe como un estudiante disciplinado. Las autoridades están buscando pistas que les ayuden a entender los motivos del ataque.
Hasta el momento, de acuerdo con el Siglo de Torreón, se reportan a la maestra y al atacante muertos y cuatro alumnos heridos, quienes son atendidos en un hospital de la localidad.
