Tucson's first 100-degree high rarely sneaks up on us as it did last week. Meteorologists and weather hobbyists look at the National Weather Service records and wonder if it really did hit triple digits.

That 100-degree temperature the National Weather Service reported last week? It's suspicious.

It struck Bill Buckmaster, a fellow Tucson weather hobbyist, strangely enough that he mentioned it the next day on his radio show. The low temperature hit 58 the morning of the 26th, about 3:30 a.m., which is not too low to later hit 100, Brode said.Weather service data from that afternoon at the airport shows it was 91 at 12:15 p.m., 93 at 12:25 p.m., then 97 at 12:30 p.m. The winds were light at the time: 7 mph from the south and southwest.

It was early in the day for a 100-degree temperature, too. In fact, the temperature quickly went down from there, hitting 95 at 1:15 p.m., then rising to 97 degrees again. "I agree it looks funny, warming up that dramatically during that 45 minute period," Howlett said."It could have been there was a micro climate that brought in that air during that short period of time."
