Three-quarters of Alabama women are breadwinners. Why are they paid less than men?

Women in Alabama are part of a powerhouse of post-COVID job creation in Alabama, but still must fight for equal pay and access to work, according to a new report., female workers in the state generate $43 billion annually, accounting for one out of every three dollars earned.

Alabama women are paid less than their male counterparts in every occupation and have the lowest workforce participation rate in the South, according to the report. “Women bore the brunt of COVID where you ask them in Alabama,” said Allen Fryer of Peregrine Strategies, who helped conduct the research. “They were typically in frontline occupations during the pandemic phase. And we know that when women bear the brunt they’re also the ones who frequently had to leave the workforce in order to be at home to care for the children who are in schools that were closed.”Close the gender pay gap.

The statement that 'women are paid less than their male counterparts in every occupation' seems false when you simply look at K-12 public education, for example. But when you factor in coaching stipends & supplements for football coaches, you can see where a discrepancy can arise

Because they only work low paying jobs

If you have a hundred women working from the receptionist to the president and 10 men working in middle management, of course the average income for men will be higher.

Since women are in charge of almost everything, the Alabama governor is a woman, just whose fault is it that they are paid less and have fewer jobs?

Not in the military

I’ve never heard any woman complain about it

Fertile women need to leave Alabama so that when and if they become pregnant, they can get competent medical care. If they suffer a miscarriage, they may be suspected of taking an abortifacient drug, or denied timely life-saving medical care.

They wouldn’t if they had a union.
