Thousands of Spanish retirees vanish from state pension rolls as coronavirus hits

A total of 205,638 pensioners left the state rolls from January through April in 2020, ministry data showed.“We have to take into account how the COVID-19 pandemic has influenced the death rate of the overall population and, most of all, the elders,” the ministry said in a statement. Spain has been one of the worst-hit countries in Europe with almost 30,000 fatalities due to the coronavirus registered. Officials have said that more than 80% of the victims of the disease are people aged 70 and older.

That was the point of this whole virus.

They were mainly in private retirement homes and in some of them the people in charge had abandoned them. Many of them were found dead on their beds.
