Thousands flee fires amid Greece's worst heat wave in decades

In the town of Evia, 90 miles from Athens, the Greek coast guard and private-owned boats are evacuating people from the beach where residents and tourists fled the flames. More than 500 firefighters, 150 vehicles, five aircraft and nine water-dropping helicopters have been mobilized, as well as several groups of volunteers. It's Greece so they working 2 today's a week at most. The rest of the time they are just sitting around drinking coffee and smoking. Not a whole the fire can destroy, I mean it's mostly beaches and rubble.

I know these wildfires spread across California like water from a bucket hitting the ground. It's a shame to see them spread in Greece similarly, as one would think they'd have an advanced notice or way to make the spread safer there. Maybe eventually

We are left to our devices. Nothing is being done to actually extinguish the fires. The government has just basically admitted that their goal is to evacuate not extinguish. There are more cops out there than firefighters.
