US star sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson was left off the roster for the US track and field team that will compete at the Olympics in Tokyo, according to the team list released Tuesday by USA Track & Field.
Richardson had secured her spot at the Tokyo Olympics with a runaway victory in the women's 100 meters at the US Olympic track and field trials last month. She was suspended one month from the Olympic team after testing positive for THC, a chemical found in marijuana, the US Anti-Doping Agency announced last week.The women's 400-meter relay is scheduled after the suspension ends, but Richardson was not listed on the official roster.This is a developing story and will be updated.

I'm sympathetic with Richardson on this, but if you have an exception to a rule, you don't have a rule. That said, The Olympic committee should really review what their rules are and how much each matters. Maybe the Olympics lose a bit more popularity and relevance after this?

While I’m nearly always a rule follower, I feel devastated for her. She’ll have served her suspension by that time, and she’s the best out there. The circumstances leading to her making that choice are heartbreaking, and I hoped she’d get a second chance.
Let this be a lesson to people. It doesn’t matter who you are actions have consequences. Don’t break the rules next time.
