The main reason the surge is ebbing now, pandemic experts suspect, is the significant immunity many people in the U.S. have acquired from prior infections and COVID vaccinations many received.

. And so the worst looks like it's probably over, many public health experts say.

"At this point, I think that's more of a guess rather than very solid evidence," Nuzzo says."But if it's true, that might mean we might be more susceptible to seeing a rise in infections when those viruses are not around." "Between vaccinations and prior infection I think all of us are in a different place than we were before," he says."All of us, if not totally protected, we are somewhat better protected. And that immunologic wall is real."

Here are US COVID19 daily deaths at wave peaks: Apr 17, 2020 2290 Aug 1, 2020 1249 Jan 12, 2021 3503 Sep 16, 2021 2082 Jan 30, 2022 2807 Aug 10, 2022 521 Jan 10, 2023 518 So latest wave is only 23% as bad as 1st wave almost 3 years ago. Good progress, but not fading fast.

Experts. Are you joking 🙃

Barely anyone is boosted now and from what we have seen the injections only last a few months. So if something is at play it's natural immunity. The absence of constant fear mongering and hysteria surely helps lower the stress thus helping the immune system. 👍

GetJabbed

Yeah everybody's gotten it backs done backs we've all been infected. The challenge moving forward is VAX injury which nobody in state media is willing to investigate.

So, natural immunity exists again?

Good news, actually best news I’ve had today. 😄

It’s called herd immunity, why isn’t anyone talking about this more?

Experts. Lol NPR, you never disappoint

Wait, I thought we were to have a winter of illness and death?

I thought natural immunity wasn’t a thing with Covid? And only using big pharma products was the only solution

Reporting this as misinformation.

Holy hell, how much are you getting paid to crap these vaccine pushing articles out?

Science!

1 1/2 ago this would be deemed as conspiratorial and people would be trying to cancel you

Bring back lockdowns and mask mandates now!

Big surprise natural immunity is superior to pharmaceutical. And since everyone got Covid vaccinated or not we now have heard immunity. The crazy nuts were right all along. 🐑

Lol NPR can’t even remember it’s narrative.

Those covid vaccines where people later got infected.. That is the thing that protected them? poor beagles.

This has been a mild winter compared to last winter thanks to vaccines, antivirals, & immunity from prior infections. Still need to be vigilant against new variants, exposure & infection. Covid symptoms suck and disrupt everyday life for the symptomatic.

Yes! Whenever viruses did not kill us, they made us stronger💪

It's mainly the prior infections.

The natural immunity crowd was right all along. We'd have been better off to just let it run its course with no restrictions on anyone.

'pandemic experts'

In my county of 330k in Washington state we are averaging 250+ reported cases per week. We are 70% double vaccinated and 30% boosted. Elderly are getting very ill and being prescribed Paxlovid which seems to work very well. I know people that have had C19 three times.

Its more like no one is giving a darn anymore and don't care about masks or the vaxxs. Oh, and the media isn't showing a death toll every 30 minutes like they did when Trump was Pres.

Vitamin D is super important. As is diet and exercise- but these don’t generate big pharma profits, so no one will promote em.

The fact that you are still peddling this nonsense is insane. I used to be a regular listener of NPR before COVID. You should be defunded.

Yeah, the boosters, sure! 🤦‍♂️🤣

Uh oh the maga mds are chiming in

KreiserMatt wtf is this wording

This post is scientifically proven misinformation. is a shill for the DNC and big Pharma

“Experts suspect” stop there! PLEASE

NPR continues the misinformation campaign.

This is stupid and misleading. There is no reliable evidence for significant, long-lasting, widespread immunity from COVID infection. It is imperative to get the vaccine and still take all the precautions - masking, distancing, staying home when you're sick.

Analysis | The GOP base is still resentful over the covid responseAnalysis: House Republicans aren’t ready to forgive and forget on pandemic mandates and closures Suppose they could ask the surviving families of the staunch GOP about what they think about pandemic measures. They're just pissed that there aren't as many Democrats dying from Covid as there are Republicans. Maybe if “leaders” could show some humility, admit to mistakes, apologize, and commit to learning from the mistakes, people might be more forgiving.

Inflammation and Immunity Troubles Top Long COVID Suspect ListNonstop inflammation and immune problems top the list of potential causes of long COVID, but doctors say it’s growing clear that more than one factor is to blame for the wide swath of often debilitating symptoms that could last months or even years. Interesting covid article. But Also points out how we need much more research, awareness and funding on Autoimmune diseases and better treatments. Many meds come with just as bad side effects. Because the Covid vaccine was inconclusive and is causing more harm on the human body. Where's the fault for long lasting impact of Covid, any remedy to correct it? In my opinion as soon as Covid was detected, if simultaneously anti-tuberculer remedies were also administered for three months then this post-Covid symptoms could have been minimized. Just think!
