The new Goodwill store in San Diego will feature furniture and clothing. It will open next week in the old Jerome's Furniture Warehouse.

Downtown San Diego is getting a new Goodwill Outlet Center and it already promises a rare find for customers — free parking. Goodwill’s Downtown San Diego Outlet Center in Maker’s Quarter opens Feb. 28 — next Wednesday — at 8:30 a.m. The second-hand retailer has taken over the 22,000-square-foot facility at 1466 F St. that used to be a Jerome’s Furniture Warehouse. The underground parking entrance is along F Street, at the rear of the store. That’s also where people can drop off donations.

“You can purchase things by the piece or by the pound,” Cossio explained of the outlet model. “Of course, you can purchase things by the piece at our retail stores, but at our outlet centers, the prices are greatly reduced.” For example, you might find a shirt at a Goodwill retail store costs $6, but at the outlet center it costs $2. Shoppers could also fill up a Goodwill tote bag with 15 pieces of clothing that is priced by weight — in this case about $27.
