A former employee accused the actor of gender discrimination and harassment after he claimed she had neglected her job and misused company funds. On Monday, he testified in a civil trial addressing both lawsuits.

These conflicting accounts have been the subject of a legal battle that began in the fall of 2019 when De Niro’s company sued Robinson, an employee at his production company who began working for him as an assistant in 2008. At first, the matter took on the familiar contours of a story about a lazy employee shirking the labor that an older generation embraced, with ready-made punchlines about Robinson’s alleged use of Netflix. The suit quickly acquired a more serious character, though.

A review of Canal’s Netflix account, the suit said, revealed that she accessed 55 episodes of Friends over a four-day week period in January 2019, along with 20 episodes of Arrested Development and 10 episodes of Schitt’s Creek during one week in March of that year. Robinson responded by suing her old boss in federal court shortly afterward.
