Known for her intrepid spirit she thought of what she could do that was within her control. “I knew I had to do my part to show these kids there is always, always something good to be found If you look hard enough,” says West. She imagined portraits of each senior blown up on huge banners lining both sides of the school’s driveway for everyone driving by to see.West reached out to photographer Josh Mattox, who owns Mattox Studios and originally took the senior portraits.
After driving past the enormous banners one senior’s father pulled over near Farica’s husband Kenny. The dad rolled down his window to ask Kenny to share with Farica how thankful he was. “He got to the word “thankful” and began to cry,” shares West. “At that point my husband cried with him there in the school parking lot. No words. Enough said.”
