to celebrate and encourage healthy eating nationwide. Hochman is on a mission to make the world a healthier place by demystifying and democratizing nutrition. Her team at Wellory created the new national holiday to create a movement around making small healthier eating choices.
Hochman became passionate about nutrition and making the world a healthier place whilst in college. She was unable to join a collegiate-level sports team when she arrived her freshman year, and began to worry about gaining weight. “I looked to what the mass media told me to do, which was to yo-yo diet. I went vegetarian, vegan, and tried plant-based. I tried intermittent fasting.
These health complications drove Hochman to become a certified health coach and create Wellory, a wellness technology company that connects consumers with certified health experts to deliver nutrition education and expertise. “I started Wellory because I realized that there was no company that provided a space relevant to today’s consumers that was text-friendly, or that was affordable and accessible in terms of giving people education, resources, and support to learn how to eat healthy.
Hochman believes eating isn’t a one-size-fits-all and that nutrition should be personalized. “This is the decade to come together and prioritize our health. Healthier eating could save us more than $50 billion a year in health care costs associated with heart disease, stroke, diabetes and related illnesses. Eating well is the number one way to live a better life—regardless of age, gender or ethnicity,” Hochman explains.
To celebrate the holiday, Wellory is encouraging people to make simple changes including: drink more water, eat more vegetables, and limit added sugar. Anyone can participate and share their healthy choices on social media by posting a photo of a nutritious meal using #NationalNutritionDay and have a chance to be featured on the National Nutrition Day roundup if posts are tagged with @wellory_.
