, my Valentine's Day dreams couldn't be more clichéd. I like chocolate-dipped strawberries. And I refuse to be ashamed about it.
Yes, strawberries are wildly out of season right now. Yes, the gargantuan proportions of the berries used for dipping are absurd. And the chocolate that they're traditionally dipped in is usually one step above a melted candy bar . Unless, of course, you make them at home. Of course, making your own chocolate-covered strawberries won't mean you'll be able to magically source ruby-red ripe berries. But youhave complete control over your chocolate. And that means you can choose not only between white, milk, dark, 70%, etc. You also have the option ofthat chocolate. Me, I opt for white chocolate, since, when melted, it blends perfectly with a big handful of pulverized freeze-dried strawberries.
But you know what V-Day was also meant to celebrate? A little bit of teasing. So to really set these strawberries apart, give them a second layer. Dip those strawberry-dipped strawberries into more pulverized strawberries for a final hit of color. Or roll them in crushed pistachios for another layer of flavor. Or to make them really seductive, chill them until set, then dip intochocolate, and let the white chocolate just barely peek out at the top.
