A slew of celebrated Bay Area restaurants bid adieu in April.

Alioto's seen on April 23, 2019. The nearly 100-year-old San Francisco restaurant closed in April 2022.April wasn’t kind to a handful of long-standing restaurants that permanently closed in the Bay Area.

The end of Alioto’s, a cherished seafood restaurant in San Francisco, left a void in the Fisherman’s Wharf neighborhood after operating for 97 years. According to, Alioto’s had struck a deal with its landlord to terminate the lease after remaining dark throughout the entire two-year pandemic. The Business Times also reported that a family member, who preferred to stay unnamed, shared that the city could have done more to maintain the neighborhood to keep it clean.
