The American Cancer Society has updated its diet and physical activity recommendations to help prevent cancer — and the new guidelines released on Tuesday discourage consuming red meat, processed food, sugar-sweetened drinks — and all alcohol.
For people who still choose to imbibe, the revised guidance reiterates sticking to just one drink a day for women and two for men. And it should be noted that a standard single “drink” is defined as 12 ounces of regular beer, five ounces of wine, and a 1.5-ounce shot of distilled spirits or liquor, which may be smaller than what you actually pour yourself. For example, the University of Cambridge has noted that the average wine glass today holds 15 ounces — or three servings’ worth.
Recent research has warned that many people may need to lay off the sauce. In fact, a recent National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism report found that the number of Americans drinking themselves to death has more than doubled over the last two decades. Alcohol was a factor in nearly 1 million deaths between 1999 and 2017.
Indeed, the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer named processed meat a carcinogen in 2015, announcing it had found “sufficient evidence” that its consumption caused colorectal cancer. The IARC has also said that eating red meat is “probably carcinogenic to humans,” based on links to colorectal, pancreatic and prostate cancers.Such diet and health concerns have helped fuel the growth of plant-based meat alternatives like those from Beyond Meat BYND, -5.
Physical activity guidelines have been pumped up, as well. While the American Cancer Society previously recommended engaging in at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity or 75 minutes of vigorous-activity each week, it now encourages adults to attempt doubling that. “Adults should engage in 150-300 minutes of moderate-intensity or 75-150 minutes of vigorous-intensity physical activity per week,” it reads, adding, “achieving or exceeding the upper limit of 300 minutes is optimal.

IARCWHO AmericanCancer jcsouto After eating vegetables and grains and fruit for decades, I was gifted with cancer, in 2009. WTF? Bit of research, bang: no more vegetables, grains, or fruit. Only animal protein and animal fats. Eleven years and counting. Never felt better.
You’re becoming the Buzzfeed of market news
Just do the opposite of whatever these guys recommend to prevent cancer. Do they make money if none of us have cancer? No. Questionable motives.
Fuck it I'll take the cancer.
Unfortunately, most cow eaters can't detach from core biases. It takes a certain willpower to abstain from being controlled by the unconscious mind of habituation.
Ok, thanks for the advice.. i am shoving in another juice steak with a cold beer!
In that case.....I guess I'm now a zombie.
LOL
drandyphung
No red meat or wine? I'd rather die
I'll consume as I see fit. Sick of so-called experts. Lining their pockets. Little more.
You might want to cut down on the foodfearmodel too.
Any word about bjs?
Who wants to grow old anyway?
Yea well, drink up. I guess I'll die young.
For today.. tomorrow we will get a different perspective
Does bacon count as processed meat?
no it's best not to eat pig..also make sure meat has no blood on it..
lol, rehashing old facts
Why qualification of 'beverages' for sugar... whether consumed in food vs in beverage. 'sugar-sweetened beverages.' Sugared foods aren't called-out too What is medical research rationale? 'The emphasis is about following a healthy eating pattern” Conflicting message re sugar.
Hell no, and mostly no. Also
This is probably decades late but that’s due to lobbying but happy to see the society publishing this. Also on their website, they recommend a lot of high sugar, meat and processed foods for people treating cancer.. what the hell americancancer? American.
I don’t need this kind of negativity in my life right now
No fun at all.
So in short. Remove from your life, all the things, that bring you joy and happiness, in order to ‘reduce your risk’ of getting cancer. Lower the odds basically. Could they come up with one lousy thing to actually keep us from getting it?
If it gives you the least amount of joy in a life in which you have nothing to look forward to and each day that passes robs you of precious youth and vitality (or whatever shreds of that you might have left), it causes cancer and you probably shouldn’t do it
tan2sy Everything thing that is good for organs are, ultimately bad for cancer.
tan2sy 22 researchers. 1 man, 21 women. Wtf. Also, this.
tan2sy Also. We know how they handle the hydroxychloroquine researchs...
tan2sy They said that eating processed meat every day lift your risk of colon cancer of 20%...from 4.0% to 4.8%. Is it the same kind of useless BS here for alcool?
lol, wash rinse repeat, tell us something we don't know
I'll drink to THAT! 🍷🍺
What does a garbage article trying to greta us all into eating less meat have to do with the market? Get back in your lane.
It's best not to born 🤷♂️
Then what is the point of living?
Fact: 100% of the people who don't eat red meat or drink alcohol, die.
What happened to the word moderation? A lot of things in small doses (except plutonium and kryptonite) is key to actually enjoying the variety of life. Excess has consequences. Duh.
