The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Hits Highest Player Count After Season 2 Airs

The player count for CD Projekt Red's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has hit its highest point in over two years, and some are attributing that boost in player count to the recent airing of Season 2 of The Witcher on Netflix. Season 2 of The Witcher heavily revolved around the Wild Hunt event that was the subject of the most decorated game in The Witcher video game series.

Though The Witcher television show and video games are both based on the same source material, The Witcher books written by Andrzej Sapkowski, the television show does borrow some elements from the games. In Season 2, The Witcher made several explicit references to the games that eagle-eyed fans picked up on. The most famous was a reference to the Wolf Medallion that Geralt often wears in the games.

Even though The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is over five years old, the fact that the show continues to look to it for inspiration shows just how impactful the game is to the Witcher franchise as a whole. The Wild Hunt, an apocalyptic event in ancient mythology, is, in the Witcher franchise, a group of spectral warriors from another realm. In the show, the Wild Hunt is teased in the final episode, as they attempt to abduct Ciri for her power.

While it's unclear exactly how much of The Witcher games is canon to the show, and vice versa, the fact that there is such interconnectivity makes the games a fertile source of information for show watchers. With The Witcher set to release the third season potentially later in 2022 or in 2023, players will be able to tide themselves over by following Geralt on his adventures in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. .

Great game. One of the best ever made. I got it off the PlayStation store last week for only $15 (DLCs included). I actually bought it because of the series and now I kind of don’t like the series as much lol. This is sooooo much better
