Legal scholars hope the Arbery trial will place greater attention on the entire judicial process, not just policing: 'Most people don’t pay attention to judicial elections'

She also thanked community organizers for talking up Arbery’s name weeks prior to arrests being made in connection to his killing.

Arbery was killed on Feb. 23, 2020, but his death didn’t become part of the national consciousness until that May, when Bryan’s video was leaked and posted online. It was weeks before the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis by a white officer, which sparked national and international protests about police brutality and systemic racism.

University of Georgia law professor Melissa Redmon is not ready to draw major conclusions about the outcome of the Arbery murder trial just yet. “You have a similar situation where a white person is confronting a Black person who is trying to get away and excessive force is used and that person dies,” Redmon said. She says given all that it took to get the Arbery case to trial, she hopes the public focuses more attention to“People have to pay attention to the players in the criminal justice system. One of the problems is, you don't get much info on Judges at election time. They should have stat charts or something. We need something to compare. The judge in the Rittenhouse trial, was a hot mess.

This is true. I never know which judge to vote for. I am woefully ignorant about how different judges are chosen. These last few months with so many trials have been an eye opener

Thousands of lynchings over several generations. Georgia is at last showing they are ready to move into modern times. Wisconsin, not so much. Each community must realize what justice means. Time to evolve and reject the white supremacists ideals.

Here in New England we often forget that in stAtes like Wisconsin and North Carolina, judges are elected.

Hate and resentment is easy to spread - like cancer. The GOP has opened its doors and welcomed the purveyors of hate and resentment as necessary allies to gain power.

Well there is a chance the explanation they gave was reasonable. What, a black man 'jogging' through the neighborhood, why? This may reflect a growing and disturbing trend to demonize (poor)whites out of political expediency rather than anyone caring about what really happened.

This a huge priority of the GOPs leadership during the Trump presidency. Judges and obstruction. Moscow Mitchs go to plays.

That guy looks like he’s fixin to shoot the camera guy out of self defense.

Many of is try to pay attention, but readily accessed reliable information is scarce
