Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts just put down a major progressive marker in her bid to win the Democratic presidential nomination. Although Senator Warren deserves credit for the boldness of her plan, its two major planks are flawed policy, even from a progressive point of view that places a priority on making college accessible and affordable for many more students. Here are the problems.Under Warren’s plan, up to $50,000 in student debt would be canceled for every debtor with household income under $100,000.
First, beware the words “partner with states.” What if states decide not to “partner?” Would they be punished by the feds? Lose eligibility for Pell grants or the GI Bill? It’s also not clear how “split” would be quantified, and how much revenue states would need to be a partner.

I agree w/ the writer that if I get a loan, I make a commit. 2 pay it back. But that's not what happens w/ borrowing for edu. The govt and loan agencies get rich by drowning us in interest on top of the orig. $. This is the prob. Instead make edu affordable for all! w/o high APR

This article didn't really make a case against SenWarren's plan. College should be treated differently because it's not only an investment in our nation's economic future, but also an investment in the critical thinking skills of the electorate.
Lol this critique is shallow at best and idiotic at worst. The writer cherry picks England as an example of free college gone wrong. He doesn't look at examples from countries like Germany, The Netherlands, Sweden.....among many others.
how come most of these articles dont mention how enrollment in Germany with it's 'free college' is lower percentage wise than in USA with its 'draconian debt-slavery' really makes you think
