A photo of the Eric's Heroes team, which includes photographer Doug Pigsley, producer Joan Kinsey, and KOMO News editor Darrin Tegman. The Eric’s Heroes“We’ve talked to young people, old people, and rich people and poor people,” Eric Johnson said. All of his heroes have something in common:
Since its debut in 2016, Eric has profiled more than 300 heroes all over the state. What looks effortless on television is quite the opposite. There are three other people in the award-winning Heroes team. Eric describes the crew as a four-legged table. Without all four legs, the table just doesn’t work. There is producer Joan Kinsey, who helps find the stories. Joan makes the calls, sets up interviews, and tracks down subjects. Photographer Doug Pigsley has worked with Eric for over three decades.
KOMO News editor Darrin Tegman edits the stories and breathes life into the script written by Eric. “He’s got the timing, the sense. He knows how to space it out. He gives the story a feel,” Johnson explained. The weekly segments about the joys of youth sports were a smash hit from the start. It was comedy of the purest kind: innocent, joyful, and fun. After nearly 20 years, Eric said the little heroes simply grew up.
