Like those investigations, the Uvalde probe will end with policy recommendations and a report, but Americans hoping for individual
officers or the police department to be held criminally or even civilly liable for their reported refusal to immediately engage the gunman should temper their expectations.that police departments don’t actually have a constitutional obligation to protect people. In Castle Rock v. Gonzales, Jessica Lenahan sued city of Castle Rock, Colorado, alleging that the police department's failure to enforce a restraining order against her estranged husband enabled him to kill their three daughters.
On June 22, 1999, Lenahan reportedly tried for hours to get police to find and arrest her estranged husband, who had taken possession of the three children hours earlier. But the police did not take action, even though Lenahan had obtained a restraining order against him weeks earlier. Lenahan’s legal team argued that the police were derelict in their duty, but after several failed appeals in lower courts, the Supreme Court eventually ruled against her. For the majority, conservative Justice Antonin Scalia wrote: “We do not believe that these provisions of Colorado law truly made enforcement of restraining orders mandatory. A well established tradition of police discretion has long coexisted with apparently mandatory arrest statutes.

thereidout How about protecting them before they become shooting victims? Why do they practice hostage situations, that shows intent. Regardless, Uvalde Chief f**ked up royally. If they weren’t going to protect them call in agency who would. Mind boggling.
thereidout 😈💩👿
thereidout The SCOTUS had already ruled on this. You MUST pay the police salaries but you dont get sh't for it. I mean, even THEY murder innocent civilians without any repercussions.
thereidout
thereidout
thereidout What, so essentially, they serve as armed crowd control and enforcers who generate some income for the city by setting up speed traps? I wonder how much the police in Uvalde charge to actually protect someone and their property, or if that would get farmed out to a contractor?
thereidout WoW, after watching “Watergate” the blueprint on CNN and what the Republican Senators and Trump are doing you can see the similarities of what their doing, how are they getting away with it! Someone has to step up and stop this!
thereidout Scalia, screwing over the american people 6 years after his death. Does someone have to venture down to hell to erase him from existence?
thereidout The majority of the Supreme Court cares only about itself and the aggrieved Evangelical MAGAts. That’s it.
thereidout ...not obligated to do their jobs, but we have to tolerate their brutality and incompetence, and throw billions their way at the expense of having a decent country... gee, who in their right mind would want to 'defund' that!?...
thereidout So dont call them anymore
thereidout Fix the schools crazy person shouldn't be able to do what that white supremacists want a be did while cops stood around. All the cops were white supremacists. So we a crazy white supremacists with a rifle shooting brown children while white supremacists cops just stood around.
thereidout THE COPS ARE THE PROBLEM.
thereidout The real problem is that they have moral values or courage.
thereidout What’s the difference between law enforcement and the armed services? Why are cops allowed to refuse to go through the door but not service members?
thereidout They shouldn't get anymore funding for their S.W.A.T team.
thereidout And this is why we need the 2A police show up after events not at the onset. They are NOT your protectors they prevent nothing
thereidout So much for the belief that one good person with a gun is all that is needed to stop a bad person with the gun if the people trained to stop the bad guys don't have to if they don't want to.
