The Superman Family's New Mission Confirms Why Metropolis is Better Than Gotham

But it turns out that Superman is a lot better at not just protecting his city, but improving it.

The Bat-Family and Superman Family have been doing their best to protect and improve their equivalent cities for decades, but it seems Superman has finally managed to set Metropolis on the path to becoming a better place to live — something Batman still struggles with. This has been especially true in the Dawn of DC era, which has included a renewed focus on the entire Superman Family, from Superboy to Power Girl.

"They're really trying to carry Metropolis into the future, whereas the Bat-Family is trying to protect Gotham. And generally, they're not trying to help Gotham evolve. The Superfamily is trying to help Metropolis evolve.

Still, Bruce Wayne has done just about everything he can to help Gotham City evolve and become safer, including investments in infrastructure and community programs. But, unlike Superman, Batman's villains don't care about whether Gotham City continues to exist; in fact, some of his villains actively want it gone.

Bruce Has Tried To Evolve Gotham City Batman and Superman have never dealt with the same kinds of situations or villains. Since Superman finally has Lex Luthor in prison, he and his allies can get a handle on Metropolis and push it into the future. Batman, on the other hand, has to continually deal with the kinds of villains who don't care about their own lives, much less the city they live in.
