Historically black colleges and universities helped lift generations of African-Americans to economic security. Now, attendance has become a financial drag on many of their young graduates, members of a new generation hit particularly hard by the student-debt crisis.
Students of these institutions, known as HBCUs, are leaving with disproportionately high loans compared with their peers at other schools, a Wall Street Journal analysis of Education Department data found, and are less likely to repay those loans than they were...

Higher education filled w/ challenges: financial, political,.... NO challenge more dangerous than high level of debt students, particularly from under-represented groups, take on in order to be able to attend school. highered Students education BlackLivesMatter scholarships
Thieves come in all colors. Retool these institutions to teach marketable skills or close them! They are an anachronism whose time has passed. Half the colleges in the Country should be shuttered but the economic devastation to towns and surrounding areas would be catastrophic.

Thank Dem Govt control
So, historically black colleges are ripping off black students - sounds like a black 'thang' (back in the 70's I was told, 'You wouldn't understand'). OK, fair enough. So being an old white cis man, I'll leave this to heroes like Sharpton, Jesse, & Obama to fix. Good luck, kids.
Everyone leaves college with huge debt, oh I forgot, it's black debt that's racism!
Lol this is the most Millennial headline ever.
Smart enough to get accepted by a college but not smart enough to pay back loans you signed up for and promised to pay back? That's stupidity and lying. Own that .
in fact, get a mikeroweworks scholarship, get a good job, and pay your way thru college when you dont need a loan? hmmmmmmm
So does this study mean the other kids, that are paying their loans back, u know from the other schools, are keeping the system afloat?
then maybe WAIT &do more 2go in w/out loans? no one sells a Koenigsegg 2someone who can only afford Toyota. &no one should try to buy what they cant afford. If kids stop going to expensive colleges, they may lose money and realize that kids are not stupid. Colleges laugh at this.
Isn’t that all private schools?
Formal education especially college per se a scam
I have taken my fair share of student loans in order to survive in California. I am grateful to live in a country that has provided the opportunity to better myself. However, many first -generation college students, although fairly bright have not had any financial advice
Sounds like those colleges administrative staff are screwing the students

Colleges , universities ; Generate income through their students efforts. This means the students should have no financial cost of education. Sports , science , engineering , etc.... The students should graduate with a fat savings account.
People need to really start thinking about the quality of an education, not simply thinking that going to college is a golden ticket. Colleges are spending way too much time collecting your money and just being social justice warrior outlets instead of focusing on teaching
This is not a student loan issue. Look at the school, why are they charging so much in tuition? A historically black college is out to rob the students, this is what is happening.
It’s so hard to start your adult life with huge student loans hanging over your head. I wish you the best.
