After putting on a clinic in Games 3 and 4 against the Avalanche, the Stars are one win away from clinching a spot in the Western Conference finals for the second year in a row.
The Stars outscored the Avalanche 9-2 in the two road games in Denver this series. But it wasn’t until Monday that Dallas got the decisive win they’ve been waiting 11 games for.and the first three games of the Stars-Avalanche series, every game had been decided by a single goal. A few empty-netters here and there grew the final margins of victory, but Dallas’ 4-1 lead Monday was its most dominant win of the playoffs.
Dallas outshot Colorado 16-2 in the first period — arguably its best period of the playoffs. On the eve of his 21st birthday,in the first half of the game to give the Stars a 2-0 lead before Dallas’ depth took over. Heiskanen and fourth-line forwards Dadonov and Steel added two more. The Stars were rock-solid defensively on their business trip to Denver. The team blocked 27 shots, allowed Colorado its fewest shots on goal in a period at home all year Monday and have held the Avalanche to 0-for-8 on the power play in the last three games.Dallas has Colorado in a chokehold, completely stifling its top playmakers. Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar and Mikko Rantanen were all kept off the scoresheet yet again. The Avalanche have yet to hold a regulation lead this series.
