The Sonos Roam Is a Fun-Sized Speaker That Boasts Bold Sound

An IP67 rating means it can float in 3 feet of water for 30 minutes, and it's safe to take to the sand. I am notoriously hard on speakers, and in various drop tests and water resistance tests , the Roam held up with barely a scratch.The Roam isn’t the best-sounding Bluetooth speaker its size, but it sounds more than good enough to justify its $169 price.

The Roam uses a technology Sonos calls Automatic TruePlay to listen to your space and equalize the music to sound better in it. It's most noticeable in places where sound bounces easily, like bathrooms or bass-heavy kitchen corners, and it's nice to know there's an algorithm doing its best to deliver the best sound no matter where you put the speaker.

Speaking of Bluetooth mode, the Roam pairs nearly instantly and works flawlessly. One rookie mistake to avoid? Make sure to download playlists for offline listening. I had one music-less tailgate at the Mt. Hood Meadows ski resort while woefully out of cell range. Womp womp.
