'The Society,' 'I Am Not Okay With This' Canceled at Netflix Amid Pandemic Issues

Netflix is pulling the plug on two previously renewed scripted series amid an array of issues brought on by the novel coronavirus pandemic.The Society

," Netflix said in a statement Friday."We’re disappointed to have to make these decisions due to circumstances created by COVID, and we are grateful to these creators, including: Jonathan Entwistle, Christy Hall, Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, Dan Cohen and Josh Barry at 21 Laps Entertainment for; and all the writers, casts and crews who worked tirelessly to make these shows for our members around the world.

While Netflix was pleased with the performance of both shows, sources say the uncertainty surrounding production dates, efforts to balance the needs and scheduling availabilities of a large cast and unexpected budget increases because of the pandemic prompted both cancellations.revolved around a group of teens who are forced to take matters into their own hands when they return from a school trip to discover that all the adults are missing and there is no way out of town.

The cancellations are the latest in a long series of moves made by companies both big and small amid the global coronavirus pandemic. Scheduling and production space are both expected to be among the major issues that arise in the coming months as production begins to slowly return across the globe. Showrunners, actors and crew often juggle multiple projects in the Peak TV space, often booking additional work during hiatus.
