The Sims Movie From Margot Robbie Officially In The Works At Amazon MGM

As per Puck, The Sims movie is now officially moving forward. The project has set its sights on a studio with Amazon MGM, who won in a bidding war. The Sims movie will be produced by Robbie and directed by Kate Herron. The film’s producers supposedly had a larger bid from Netflix, but sided with Amazon as they wished for a theatrical release rather than straight-to-streaming.

At the time, both Robbie and Herron were attached to the project, and luckily, this involvement has remained. At the time, The Sims movie did not have a studio or distributor attached, but was looking for one.

While Robbie will not necessarily star in The Sims, it creates an interesting career trend for her. Acting and producing Barbie last year, Robbie’s career is now populated by major IPs. The Sims and Barbie are different in that one is a video game adaptation and one adapts a popular toy franchise, but they have some similarities including the real-life roleplay inherent in their original purpose. Thus, Robbie has kind of found a very particular niche as she moves forward in her 2020s career.
