When their mother, Kristen, found out about the alleged harassment, she said she reported it to the owner of a gym Harris was associated with, made two reports on the US All Star Federation website, and notified Varsity, an overarching organization that runs camps and competitions.
“Speaking publicly about my boys’ sexual abuse was not our first choice. The only reason we spoke publicly is because we knew other boys were being subjected to the same abuse and, after months of pursuing private channels without success, we felt the only certain way to make it stop was to speak out," Kristen said in a statement provided to. "It is my mission to hold Jerry Harris and his enablers accountable both in the courts of law and the court of public opinion.
USA Cheer told Teen Vogue in a statement: “USA Cheer is committed to creating a safe and positive environment for its participants’ physical, emotional, and social development and promoting an environment free from abuse and misconduct. If you or anyone you know is experiencing sexual misconduct or abuse of any kind, report it immediately to the authorities and/or a trusted adult.
: “The sport of cheer," she said, "has a pervasive sexual abuse problem.” That's what she and her clients were trying to show by appearing on the series.
