I just went into a Duane Reade in midtown Manhattan for toilet paper and they were fully stocked. I only bought one roll. I like living on the edge.

It's based on concerns with quarantines if you have to self-quarantine for 2-4 weeks (or longer) you cannot (or should not) leave to go shopping. Therefore, people are stocking up on everyday items like toilet paper, soap, paper towels, etc.

A supply of TP was recommended by someone in media early on in case of 14-day quarantine. Can’t control much under these circumstances, but we can make sure we don’t end up with...well, you know.
