Georgia, Michigan and Oklahoma are among the states where coronavirus outbreaks are intensifying — and where per capita testing rates are some of the lowest in the nation

As the coronavirus marches from America’s coastal cities to its heartland, testing gaps in the South and Midwest are crippling efforts to contain emerging hot spots in smaller cities and rural areas.

But those advances haven’t trickled down to Oklahoma, where a lack of basic testing supplies has hampered the coronavirus response, says Shelly Zumwalt, chief innovation officer for the state’s Office of Management and Enterprise Services. “Hopefully this week and into early next week, we will have a much better idea of what the population looks like as far as where the hot spots are,” Zumwalt told POLITICO. Oklahoma State University’s lab — which can process about 2,300 tests a day — will soon start testing patient samples from across the state.

“There’s a perfect storm I worry about in certain states where their commonality is that they have low testing and low social distancing guidelines,” Slavitt told POLITICO. Oklahoma, for example, has put in place limited “stay at home” guidelines that apply to the elderly and those with underlying medical conditions, not to the general public.

“Honestly, I think we need a point-of-care test that we can stand up at health clinics or retail establishments like drug stores,” Banning said. “Physicians are really notoriously very poor reporters” of test results, Engel said. Point-of-care tests “are good for the clinical side, but they are going to displace laboratory based tests and public health surveillance is likely going to lag.”

Oklahomans! While you’re all reading this, consider voting for abbybroyles to replace JimInhofe. Remember when he was discovered to have participated in insider trading just last month and put us all in danger by downplaying a pandemic? VoteforChange

Our mayors are trying their best. Okc has been under shelter in place for two weeks. Our lame GovStitt doesn’t know how to lead

“New estimates show 25% to 50% of coronavirus carriers don't even have symptoms”. In other words testing isn’t the answer. Unless every American is tested weekly. But lack of testing sounds good cause you can blame Trump 🤪🤪

Plus Florida

Abbott Lab testing arrived in Detroit today.

Here in OK, my mom was tested the 1st time (Mar. 11) and they “lost track” of her test swab. They retested her on the 17th and sent it to Utah. She didn’t get her result back for 13 days (on 3/30) and it was POSITIVE. After self-quarantining 14 days she was over it by then.

RiseUpandResist In Vegas everything’s still open. You have to really work to find businesses that are closed. bars, gyms and barbers are closed, but there’s so many things open still that I can’t believe it. Every fast food place you can think of, 7-11’s, convenience stores it’s crazy

DevinNewsom I live in OK & today was my first day to work from home. I’m so happy to be home & finally feel safe. People are still out though. Unfortunately a lot of Oklahomans not taking this seriously.

States Restrict Travelers from Coronavirus ‘Hot Zones’Governors in Rhode Island, Florida and Texas, among others, have tightened restrictions on out-of-state travelers. In particular, they have targeted those coming from New York, the pandemic’s U.S. epicenter. When American tanks enter New York City and soldiers search New Yorkers door-to-door, should New Yorkers be greatly insulted at this moment? Are there any human rights in the United States? I’m calling BS on Florida! I have some New Yorkers staying in a vacation home two doors down from my home and they have been all over our GD common area!
