New York Disney's"The Lion King" blew past industry expectations with a huge box office opening this weekend.
The film, which is a reboot of the studio's 1994 animated classic, has made an estimated $531 million worldwide in 10 days of release. That includes an estimated $185 million opening this weekend in North America. Analysts had projected that the film would make around $150 million for its domestic opening."The Lion King" also made $98 million in China — the world's second largest movie market.

I took my niece, who's now a college graduate to see the Lion King when she was three, i took my son to see the new one yesterday. Theater was packed. Great movie!

Think it would have easily went over $200 to possibly $220 if RT had been in the 90s and WOM equaled Endgames. That's what many predicted years ago.
How did it blow past expectations? I saw Deadline predicting $192 - $200+. Many were above $200 before reviews started coming in when the embargo dropped. It landed about where I expected. Reviews definitely effected it as did WOM. WOM is nowhere near as glowing as Aladdin was.

With tickets starting at $17.50 I don't think so. If you want TRUE and ACCURATE measure of any movie's box office success, or failure, the industry should be required to report the actual number of tickets sold. The dollar total can be manipulated. It's called SPIN.

I find it hard to believe they weren't expecting this film to make a ton of money, but I'm guessing the oppressive heat forcing more people indoors this weekend probably helped a bit.

CGI movies are taking over. After seeing the previews for TLK, probably some day human actors won't be necessary.

That’s because it was an outstanding remake and no new spin was added or changed. No sjw propaganda, no characters were changed into gay characters and none were added to be “inclusive” of anybody. It was very much so like the original except animation and animals were realistic
