Under the gentle-parenting schema, a child’s every act must be seen through a lens of anxiety and threat-detection, which heightens the parent’s dual role of child psychologist and emotional security guard.

philosophy of Janet Lansbury’s “Unruffled” podcast, Robin Einzig’s “Visible Child” Facebook discussion group, Destiny Bennett’s TikToks, and the enormously popular Instagram tutorials of Becky Kennedy, a.k.a. Dr. Becky—has made me a more mindful, less reactive parent. It has changed how I speak to my children and how I attempt to negotiate tough moments with them, and for that I am grateful.

Elsewhere, the prohibitions on certain words and phrases can feel paralyzing. The parenting coach Einzig warns against “The Dreaded and Dangerous WE,” as in “We don’t hit people” and “We don’t throw food.” “It’s condescending,” she explains. “Children notice that we don’t speak this way to adults, and they figure out that we think that children don’t deserve the same respect that we give adults.

Delahooke, to her credit, never goes to such extremes. “Brain-Body Parenting” is a warm, forgiving book—there’s even a passage on the childhood importance of coziness, including an endorsement of. That’s why it’s odd that she presents “Hurry up! You’re making us late!” as the stuff of a mommy-forum struggle session. Then again, catastrophizing such a small incident is useful, because it plants the grain of doubt.

The issue is not gentle parenting. It's permissive parenting and the idea that children should not learn that other people have the same feelings and needs they do. Obviously, that's an issue, we know boundaries and empathy matter. Did we really need an article for this?

Parenting is both easier and harder then it looks.

Thousands of studies demonstrate the superiority of authoritative parenting over other styles, including indulgent parenting (which is basically what “gentle parenting” is). Indulgent parenting is great for self-esteem but is not so great for self-regulation. winterjessica

My guess will be ability to self manage

Children respond to what they see adults do around them. They will mimic their words, attitudes, tones, and behaviors, even if they don't understand the internal motivation. I feel like 'gentle parenting' is intended to acknowledge and reflect the complex thoughts and patterns

Kinda a trash piece. The other half of gentle parenting is setting boundaries and being firm with them. It's not just giving in. Neither is gentleness opposed to correcting behavior, unless you take that to mean docility. Would have benefited from talking to more parents

it neglects teaching kids what to do differently the next time they have a problem. It also doesn't include repair work if things were broken or other people's feelings were hurt. If kids don't learn to repair the damage done they lack insight into the impact their behavior has.

Did you know... According to Michigan protective services, it's ok to punish your child physically, within moderation of course, oh, and it can't leave marks.

Dunno. Seems written to set up a false opposition. You can acknowledge feelings while also holding strong on boundaries.

Don’t buy your kids giant shoes.

It neglects the plain word of God. Humans think they’re smarter, kinder, and more loving than God, so they mock His plain commandments to address the WHOLE child and do so with both NURTURE and ADMONITION. That’s why this generation is so rotten and violent! HisRevelation

I'm a mystery 💂‍♂️

Most parenting philosophies presume there is one approach that addresses problems. But an early lesson for me was that an approach that worked once often wouldn’t work the next time. You had to embrace failing towards a bespoke solution. Artisanal problem solving.

Thank you I needed that.

here are my naked photos

I’ve been parent coaching for 12 years and in my professional opinion, this is nuts.

No thanks.

Parenting. The most complex and important job in the world that can create 'saints or sinners' or something in between, few are trained for or prepared for. And preparing oneself for that awesome multi faceted responsibility is mostly ignored rather than promoted as a necessity.

How can you be a parent today without a PhD in childology and some serious research to back up your every action?

Arghh. Walk-on-eggshell parenting.

Im exhausted reading this indulgent nonsense. These poor kids are in for a shock when they tiptoe out to the real world

I think that kid is right to be upset. those shoes are far too large!

Those parents are a trip!
