A never-built freeway extension, the Long Beach Freeway in Pasadena, does not exist but maddeningly lives in your apps.

Since 1959, local communities in the west San Gabriel Valley have fought against a proposed extension of the 710 Long Beach Freeway through El Sereno, South Pasadena and Pasadena. Their drawn-out battle worked, and the state killed the freeway project in 2018.

This is the map of the 210 Freeway in Pasadena from Apple Maps app taken from a smartphone, showing a connection to the Long Beach Freeway traveling into Old Pasadena. The freeway does not extend to the 210, and the area is only an exit to a roadway known as the 710 Stub that goes to Del Mar Boulevard. Some call this app misleading.

“Why is it on the GPS? That is a really good question and I don’t know why,” said Joanne Nuckols, a longtime member of the “Freeway Fighters” in South Pasadena. “It misleads people.” . I’ve been told it uses the Google base map, so whatever Google decided to put on Route 710 in Pasadena is what appears on Caltrans QuickMap as well,” wrote Michael Comeaux, a spokesperson for Caltrans-District 7, in an answer to questions.

1 child killed, another injured in violent crash on 215 Freeway in RiversideA child was killed, another was injured and an adult was also hurt in a violent crash on the 215 Freeway in Riverside. The 215 is the worst. Narrow lanes, terrible pavement, and the need to change lanes continually, even to STAY on the 215 (because of the way the interchanges are designed), makes it a white-knuckle ride every time. We're Children driving the vehicles? This post is absurd.
