On Nov. 15, 2017, The Genesis Prize Foundation announced that Ruth Bader Ginsburg, associate justice of the United States Supreme Court, would be receiving the inaugural Genesis Lifetime Achievement Award.

This prestigious recognition was bestowed upon Justice Ginsburg for her unparalleled contributions to civil liberties and women’s rights in the United States.

The Genesis Prize Foundation was founded to inspire unity within the Jewish community by celebrating its members' accomplishments and contributions to the world. Ginsburg attended Cornell University, where she met her husband, Martin D. Ginsburg. After earning her bachelor's degree in government in 1954, Ginsburg embarked on her legal education at Harvard Law School as one of the few women in her class. She transferred to Columbia Law School, where she graduated in 1959, tied for first in her class.

In the landmark case of Ledbetter v. Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., decided in 2007, Lilly Ledbetter took a stand against her employer, Goodyear, accusing the company of paying her less than her male colleagues for doing the same job. The court did not decide in her favor, pointing out that she had missed the deadline to file her lawsuit. However, Ginsburg wouldn't let this go without a fight.

Ginsburg’s meticulous legal opinions and dissents have left an indelible mark on American law, influencing future generations of legal scholars and activists. Her work extended beyond the courtroom, as she became a cultural icon, affectionately dubbed"Notorious RBG," a testament to her enduring influence and legacy.
